Anita Roy: The Best Indian Children’s Book of the Year

We asked some people who we know read a lot of Indian children’s and YA books to tell us about one (or more) really impressive book they read this year. We will be posting their replies over the rest of the month.

Anita Roy is the editor-publisher of Young Zubaan and an author.

Since reading her delicious parable on becoming a writer, Wisha Wozzariter, last year, I’d been looking forward to seeing what Payal Kapadia would come up with next. Horrid High (Puffin) didn’t disappoint. The snappy dialogues, crazy cast of characters and laugh-out-loud scenes mark this out as one of my highlights of the year. Kapadia is the opposite of preachy, and her irreverent take on life in the world’s most horrible school was a dastardly delight from beginning to end. Can’t wait to see what she’s going to come up with next!
